A Reality Tour was the highest-grossing global tour of and one of the most critically acclaimed tours of Bowie's career. Bowie fans can rejoice now that that a Reality Tour has finally been remastered as a double CD set. About This Item. Third, the band, Bowie's delivery, and even his between-song banter make this one of the better live albums I've listened to in years.
You can hear individual audience members reacting and singing in certain sections, but there's really no ambient audience roar to drown out anything. In fact, the versions of "Rebel Rebel", "The Man Who Sold the World", and "All the Young Dudes" are almost anthemic here, and the audience is as much a part of the recording as the people on stage.
In several places, Bowie solicits audience participation to help him out: he didn't really need the help, but I think the result is quite nice. Maybe the album represents what the audience experienced, and maybe not: there's a credit for "Pro Tools and 5. Then again, I wasn't there, so I'm happy with what I can get. One thing I think is underappreciated on many of Bowie's later albums especially the live ones is the fantastic band behind him. The sound and musicianship here is very good--no prima donna leads, no deviation from the program, but everyone hits the song just right.
Band members credited are Gerry Leonard "band leader", guitar, vocals , Sterling Campbell drums, vocals , Earl Slick guitar, and quite nice as usual , Gail Ann Dorsey on bass, and Catherine Russell and Mike Garson on keyboards and other. Excellent ensemble, but I have to say, I'd buy a record of "Chopsticks" recorded by Slick and Dorsey. I dock it one star for the versions of "Heroes" and "Ziggy". They aren't bad, by any means, but some things just shouldn't be done again when they're perfect the first time.
David Bowie Live. From the '03 tour. Varied and satisfying set list, meticulously crafted EQ, familiar instrumentation with just the correct amount of experimental action. The guitars and vocals are killer.
No crowd interference. I highly recommend! This is from the early days of the tour that was cut short by Bowies heart attack: he's in fine form, the concert is long, he's affable, and the musicians--especially Gail Anne Dorsey--play well, and are clearly heard.
Although it's got many of his best known songs, it manages to have about ten "new" songs, from "Heathen" and "Reality": a very good balance, when you consider it, and a balance that builds in some ironic takes: "Never Get Old" followed by "Changes," for example. It comes with three songs not on the DVD. Recommended for anyone who appreciates db. I have recently rediscovered all of my old Bowie CDs.
The reason for this was this wonderful live cd. While some would argue that past live albums such as Stages or David Live are classics I would rank this one as his best. While he is nearing the end of what can only be classified as a hall of fame career and his voice may be a bit weaker than in earlier years, he still has it. This CD is packed with all of his greatest songs, done in an intimate way both with the listener and the fans.
It makes me wish he had released other live albums over the years. If you love Bowie this is a must have. Reality David Bowie. Cactus Black Francis. Afraid David Bowie. While the album has become highly praised in its own right over the years, fans of Iggy Pop have criticized the work as unrepresentative of his repertoire and as evidence of his being "co-opted" by Bowie for the latter's own ends. Poor Jim, in a way, became a guinea pig for what I wanted to do with sound. I didn't have the material at the time, and I didn't feel like writing at all.
I felt much more like laying back and getting behind someone else's work, so that album was opportune, creatively. Bowie later re-worked "Sister Midnight" with new lyrics as "Red Money" on his album Lodger , while his version of "China Girl" on 's Let's Dance became a major hit. Pop has called The Idiot his "album of freedom". In , Grace Jones covered the song "Nightclubbing" as the title track to her album of the same name.
Pop's version of "Nightclubbing" provided the kick drum sound for Nine Inch Nails' song " Closer ". The drum loop of "Nightclubbing" was also duplicated by Oasis for the song "Force of Nature" on their album Heathen Chemistry.
Tracks such as "Mass Production" and "Baby" were performed live in some cases for the first time since they were released.
